In tough financial times, students often find themselves at the end of each semester wondering how on earth they’ll pay for the next. With the economy on highly uncertain ground, tuition is unpredictable, as is job security.
There have been rumors around that Michigan Tech tuition will increase next year. Similarly, it would be unsurprising for the state government in its current financial situation to cut funding to public universities.
Fortunately, things may be a little better than they first appear. According to Bill Roberts in Michigan Tech’s Financial Aid office, there is no indication at the present time that the state government will take away funding from the University, and the federal government has appropriated some additional money for Pell Grants.
Roberts also says that there is no official decision on whether there will be a tuition increase next year but declined to comment further on the subject.
Whether or not tuition rises for next year, the Financial Aid office can help students who are struggling to find money. The first thing students should do if they find themselves unable to pay their tuition fees is talk to the Financial Aid office about the situation. Currently, 91 percent of Michigan Tech students receive financial aid. There may be additional funding available, depending on the circumstances.
