Houghton residents and Michigan Tech students will soon have a spicy new dining option.
Carmelita’s, a local Mexican restaurant originally based in Calumet, will open a second location in the Pearl Street Mall. The expected completion date is Dec 1.
The new restaurant will differ starkly from the Calumet location in that it will primarily be a take-out location with seating available for only 15 patrons inside. Due to the different set-up, the menu will also be slightly more limited than in Calumet. The restaurant plans to focus on their Mexican fare while leaving some dishes that are available at the Calumet location (such as seafood, steaks and alcoholic drinks) off the menu.
Operating hours have not yet been announced.
