The Calumet Theater has a host of events this season
The Calumet Theatre is pleased to announce the 2008 fall schedule. Tickets are on sale for the following events. The Calumet Players will be presenting their annual fall musical production. This year they will present Annie Get Your Gun on Sept. 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. The show is reserved seating. All tickets are $15. The Missoula Children’s Theater presents Alice in Wonderland on Oct 17 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. Auditions will be held on Monday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. in the Red Jacket Ballroom. Please join 60+ local aspiring actors and actresses as they put on a delightful children’s stage play in one week’s time under the direction of the Missoula Children’s Theater. A Calumet Theatre favorite! Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, $15 for both shows. The residency in Calumet is supported by the Performing Arts Fund, a program of Arts Midwest funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts’ American Masterpieces, which believes a great nation deserves great art, with additional contributions from General Mills Foundation, Land O’Lakes Foundation and in part by a grant from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. Direct from Scandinavia, the power string band Frigg will present a concert of fiddle and ethnic music on Saturday, Oct.18 at 7:30 p.m. To understand power-string band Frigg, you must take a mental journey to the small Finnish village of Järvelä “The joke is that if your name is Järvelä, you were born with a fiddle in your hand.” While listeners of bluegrass and Celtic music will find some similarities in Finnish and Norwegian string music (two of the founding band members hail from Verdal, Norway), the melodic twists and turns are an aural reminder that things are just different up north where the sun disappears for months at a time. Frigg takes that one step further with the energy of a rock band and off-kilter rhythms and missing beats that accentuate the unexpected reserved-meets-over-the-top sense of humor common in Finland. Sponsored by Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Heartland Communications. WMTU presents an evening of eclectic rock music with Ghost of the Great Lakes Festival on Saturday, Oct. 25. The line-up includes Sycamore Smith, Matt Jones and the Great Lakes Myth Society. Show time is 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 adults, $5 students with I.D. The holiday event of the year will take place on Sunday, Dec. 7 when the Calumet Theatre presents The Lettermen Christmas Concert at 7:30 p.m. The letter sweaters may only make a brief appearance at each Lettermen performance, but The Lettermen harmony is non-stop. From their first hit in 1961 - “The Way You Look Tonight” - through current hits of today, the sound is undeniably Lettermen. Eighteen Gold Albums worldwide and scores of top singles attest to a popularity that has endured through several generations. With over 10,000 sold out shows to their credit, The Lettermen are constantly sending valentines to their audiences with each note of every love song. Join them for an evening of hits and holiday favorites. Tickets range from $25 to $35. Discount for Theatre Members. Sponsored by Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Heartland Communications. Club Indigo will present the films Virgin Spring on Oct. 10, Spirited Away on Nov. 14 and Meet Me In St. Louis on Dec. 12. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. followed by the film at 7:15 p.m. Dinner and movie tickets are $17. Film alone is $5. The Calumet Senior Class Play will take place on Nov. 7 and 8, and the Houghton High School Drama Club will present Jane Eyre on Nov. 22. Show times are at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 adults and $3 for high school students and younger. Tickets are available by phone or by visiting the Calumet Theatre Box-Office. Box-Office hours are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 2.5 hours before show time. Beginning Nov. 4, Box-Office hours will be Tuesday through Friday 12-5 p.m. For more information, please call the Calumet Theatre Box-Office at (906) 337-2610 or check our Web site at www.calumettheatre.com.
