The hockey Huskies finally return home to the MacInnes Student Ice Arena to face the No. 11 Minnesota State Mavericks this weekend. The Mavericks stunned the hockey world Friday night by beating Colorado College at home and dropping a one-goal decision on Saturday.

“(Minnesota State) is a top-15 team in the country,” said Huskies’ head coach Jamie Russell. “They certainly are playing some very good hockey.”

The Mavericks (5-3-2 overall, 3-3-2 WCHA) are led in scoring by sophomore defenseman Kurt Davis (3-10=13) who also leads the squad in assists with 10. Senior forward Mick Berge (2-9=11) and sophomore Mike Louwerse (6-3=9) are also off to fast starts. Louwerse leads head coach Troy Jutting’s squad in both goals (6) and power play markers with four.

Senior Mike Zacharias (5-3-2 overall, 2.66 goals against average, 91.6 save percentage) has played every minute between the pipes for the Mavericks, giving the squad a veteran presence night in and night out.
The Huskies boast three players tied for the team lead in points. Sophomore winger Jordan Baker (5-2=7), senior winger Malcolm Gwilliam (2-5=7) and junior defenseman Drew Dobson (0-7=7) have all gotten on the board with regularity.

Senior netminder Rob Nolan (1-6-1 overall, 3.05 goals against average, 89.2 save percentage) appears to be back at full strength, giving the Huskies a leader from the backend.
Both games this weekend will start at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
