Pushing political incorrectness to new levels
The Capitol Steps blurred the boundary of political correctness and incorrectness to new extremes during their Saturday, Sept. 20 performance in the Rozsa Center. Coincidentally, the group also celebrates their 21-year anniversary in 2008 and, along with it, the happy occasion that 532 members of congress have been defeated or placed under investigation during their reign.
While no accusations are being made with respect to Capitol Steps, according to the group, “they have never had a shortage of material.”
While the Steps’ performance was riddled with their familiar elements of style and savvy, their updated set of issues focused on the presidential elections with snippets of such current events as the olympics and the war in Iraq. “Obama-mia” described the public’s infatuation with the Democrat elect while “Ebony and Ovaries” poked fun at his mistake of not choosing Hillary Clinton as his running mate. Emmigration, globalization, bankruptcy, American’s fascination with the pharmaceutical industry and even Oprah Winfrey made their way into the spotlight.
