Our sincerest apologies

Last week, a writer for the Lode made a tragic error in reporting about the accident that claimed the life of Lee Drelles. A lapse in judgment in verifying sources led to the implication of the owner of the car, Kevin Poppe, as the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident. Kevin was not involved in the accident. We are deeply sorry for the mistake, and understand that the effects of these types of mistakes degrade our credibility and more importantly, they distract from the gravity of the situation. It is important to us that Kevin and all others effected by this error know that there was no malicious intent and that this mistake will result in a revision of Lode policy and this will never happen to another student. We will be developing a piece celebrating the life of Lee over the coming week. We hope that anyone who would like to contribute a picture or a story about Lee will contact us to have it included. The tragic losses of our friends, classmates and colleagues are a stark reminder of our need to cherish the time we have with each other. We would like to celebrate the times people had with Lee and profile him for the ways he touched our lives.
