Wasn't going to post in here cause the article and responses were old but now that someone else did recently.

Great article. Nudity is very much too linked to sex any more. its nice to be able to just strip down every so often. either alone or with some of the more accepting friends and what not.

Oh and just teeshirt is awesome too...

Alan and Sparks, I am glad to have represented both of you in the article. I definitely understand the desire to be without attire, especially outside (skinny dipping, haha)... it is interestingly liberating.

Bisonex, the quote you outlined was not aimed that everyone should accept nudists or run around nude, it was the summing line to the entire point of the article, which you may have missed.

Thanks for the great thoughts. Our culture teaches us that nudity equals sex. That is not true (although sex is best enjoyed while nude). Nudity is about freedom, body acceptance and acceptance of who we are. I am a relatively new nudist living in the UP. I am basically a home nudist, but have visited a nudist resort in lower Michigan. I occasionally find remote and secluded areas to hike and enjoy nature nude. I find nudity to be a natural experience for me and try to be nude as often as possible in the appropriate setting. I challenge everyone to spend more time nude in the privacy of your home and see how it changes your thinking.

Nudity is rather like sex. It is something which is beautiful in context, i.e. in intimate circumstances, but not something you should want to share with strangers, and not something strangers generally want to see.

The human body can be beautiful, but it can also be quite repulsive. Besides, the difference between nudity and, say, beach wear is that the genitals and buttocks are in view with the former, and I don't know many people who think those particular features of human anatomy are beautiful!

You say "Our culture must learn to differentiate and understand nudity instead of seeing it as indulgence and as only associated with sexual activity". No thanks. I am quite happy with my culture as it is and I have no desire to change it to suit the preferences of what is, essentially, a small minority of nudists, hippies and exhibitionists.

Bravo well said I concur completly. Thank you for writting this thoughtful insightful piece. I must admit to being a bit biased though as I am a naturist/nudist and I enjoy outdoor nudity either in my own backyard or garden or at a nude beach or at a private club with other like minded folks. I think it also serves to offer a more realistic look at the nude human form and thus allow us to accept our bodies and be less critical of our own.
