With three four-win teams ahead of them in West Wads Conference No. 1, La Maison 3 and the Knights Who Say Ni faced off in a critical match-up in terms of each teams playoff opportunities. La Maison 3 entered with a 3-1 record, and the Knights owned a perfect 3-0 record. Both teams had scored 15 goals for the season, so it promised to be a close game.
The first half definitely followed along those lines with both teams creating several opportunities but to no avail. It was not until just past the halfway point of the first half that La Maison’s power scorer Alexander Temple fired a shot past Lucas Meeuwsen. Temple was not done, tallying another just before the half.
With a 2-0 lead already, La Maison 3 really opened the floodgates on the Knights, who were more than likely saying “No way this is happening to us” after Temple notched two more second-half goals for La Maison 3. Two other goals sealed the deal in a dominant 6-1 victory, with Knights’ captain and leading scorer Nicholas Deming breaking the shutout with just two minutes remaining in the game.
La Maison 3 captain Luke Johnston said that their five years of experience in some players’ cases definitely helped them, and Temple has not been stopped this year, tallying more than half of the team goals. Deming knew that his team did not play their best game, “allowing too many weak side plays.” Deming must have taken at least 75 percent of the team shots in the game, as his now 10 goals far and away lead the team.
La Maison 3 has a very strong chance at a good postseason run after surpassing the Knights Who Say Ni in the standings by virtue of their head-to-head victory. Only TMNN ahead of them boasts a perfect record, and it could be tough to get ahead of them after already falling to them 2-0 earlier this year. Either way, it was clear who controlled this game and La Maison 3’s confidence is growing while the Knights will be looking for some quick fixes before two games in two hours on Wednesday night.
