As with most of the games this time of year, this was another one with huge playoff implications on the line. Hailing from East Wads Conference No. 3, The Flying Penguins came into the game at 5-0 and the Sea Monsters coming in at 4-1. Both teams were looking to claim a spot at the top of the division to help solidify their hopes for entering the playoffs.
The first half was a hard-fought battle with goals coming sparingly. The Sea Monsters struck first with a goal by Trent Larm with only five minutes to play in the first half. The Flying Penguins were not to be left behind though; only a mere minute later, Collin Tether would score a goal to tie things up 1-1. That score ended up holding, as was the score at halftime.
Once the second half started though, the flood gates opened for the Sea Monsters. They scored four unanswered in the second half to bring the score to 5-1. This did not discourage the Flying Penguins, nor their boisterous (to be kind) cheering sections as they kept firing and got another goal to light the lamp. But the Sea Monsters added another insurance goal to make the score what it ended up at, 6-2.
The final goal tallies for the Sea Monsters were both Trent Larm and Henry Richardson with hat tricks. Collin Tether had both of the goals for the Flying Penguins. With both teams sharing a record of 5-1 after tonight’s game, East Wads Conference No. 3 is yet another conference that just got tighter and will have to be sorted out in the next few weeks before the playoffs.
