The Icebreakers remain undefeated in overtime clash with Summit Street Hooligans

When you have two undefeated teams and you put them together at the same time on the same ice, you are almost guaranteed to have a great game to watch.  This was such a case today as the Summit Street Hooligans faced off against The Icebreakers.  Both teams entered the contest with the goal of proving why they deserved to be atop the leader board for the Off Campus Conference No. 5.

In the first period of action both teams came out firing shots left and right.  This created some pressure on both goaltenders; however both of them seemed to be up to the challenge as no goals were allowed in the first period.  The amount of shots that were fired in the first period favored The Icebreakers.  They would outshoot their opposition 17 to 9.

After halftime the amount of offense from both teams remained the same.  This would eventually lead to the Summit Street Hooligans scoring the first goal of the game midway through the period.   Not more than a few minutes later The Icebreakers would answer with a goal of their own tying the game up 1-1 with only a few minutes left in regulation.  The rest of this period consisted of both teams shooting all the way up until the whistle blew for regulation time to end.

With the scored tied at one point for each team, it was time to head to an extra overtime period.   As the period began both teams had a few good shots at the goal, but it was not until midway through overtime that Seth Wilcox would score and give The Icebreakers their fifth win of the season.

With this win The Icebreakers now stand atop the conference with a perfect 5-0 record while the Summit Street Hooligans will drop to second place.  I was able to speak with the John Reese, captain of The Icebreakers, after the game.  He said that his team is in a, “good position,” heading into the playoffs.

For this game I find it only fitting for me to decide someone who I really thought stood out.  During this game one person scored both of his team’s goals including the one that would notch the win in overtime.  The MVP of this game would have to be none other than Seth Wilcox of The Icebreakers.

  1. I think that you need to give creidt to both the goalies. It’s not easy to have repeated against you and have a tied score, resultint in overtime play.

Let’s take these guys out of the net and put them in spotlight where they belong.

As a correction to this article, the team member who scored the two goals for The Icebreakers was Seth Woolcott, not Seth Wilcox and their captain is Bill White, not John Reese.

  4. Thanks for the update on the Summit Street Hooligans goalie. Sorry for my series of typos. The Super Bowl and serious typing are not a good combination.

My point was that both the goalies deserve credit for a great job. Best wishes for a great broomball season.

  5. Thanks for the updates on the players. What I was trying to say is that both goalies did a great job to keep the scoring low.

*NOTE* You shouldn’t watch a Super Bowl game and try to type at the same time. Distractions resulted in too many typos. My apologies.

Best wishes for a great broomball season to both teams.
