Although they may not look as strong as last year, this year’s Pirate Sheep team is not to be taken lightly. Tonight’s game was proof of this, as their top two goal scorers didn’t play offense tonight. Ty Reno, the team’s leading goal scorer, wasn’t available to play today, as well as their goalie Joe McSweeney. This left captain Drew Madek to play goalie for the night. This meant that some of the other players would have to step up, and step up they did.
About five minutes into the first half the Pirate Sheep scored their first goal, coming off of the stick of Jake Gefroh. The 6-0 Caliente did not get discouraged by this though as just minutes later they matched with a goal of their own coming off of the broom of the team’s leading goal scorer Tyler Losinski. But the first half went to Pirate Sheep, scoring two more before the first half whistle bringing the first half score to 3-1 in favor of Pirate Sheep.
The game stayed in favor of the Pirate Sheep in the second half with Caliente looking a little deflated. The Pirate Sheep were only able to put up one more goal in the second half, but that was really all that they would need because Caliente was only able to score the one goal. The final score was 4-1.
Although in the standings Caliente will still be in first place by points, tonight showed that first place will probably be in the Pirate Sheep’s hands by the end of the year. The final goal tally for Pirate Sheep was two for Jake Gefroh, one for James Hueter, and one for Daniel Michalski. The goal for Caliente was scored by Tyler Losinski.
