Two 4-1 teams clashed in McNair Conference No. 3 for what may prove to be a critical game in terms of playoff positioning. We Talk Like T-Pain and the Assassins of the Youth battled hard through the chilly February night air, but both teams looked like they were on fire early.
Shortly after the opening faceoff, We Talk Like T-Pain fired home a shot to take a very early 1-0 lead. It was so early into the game in fact, that it was not until after the first goal that the referees decided the uniforms were too similar, forcing the Assassins of the Youth to don the red jerseys. It was basically right of the next opening faceoff, though that AotY responded with a goal of their own.
Both teams fought back and forth with both goaltenders making critical saves. For the final 10 minutes of the first half, and probably the first ten minutes of the second half, it remained a 1-1 game before WTLT-P was able to put the ball in the net despite the staunch goalkeeping of Ben Wittbrodt.
Jacob Harvey and captain Anthony Carley, the two leading scorers on WTLT-P, notched goals in the game, while Jordan Berg picked up the Assassins lone goal. With updated standings in effect, the Assassins of the Youth fell several places and now sit at 4-2 with four teams ahead of them. We Talk Like T-Pain remains in first place with the victory, but second-place Sledheads control their own playoff destiny, having already taken down WTLT-P earlier this year. It will be interesting to follow the McNair Conference No. 3 playoff picture down the stretch.
