Skiers compete in season-opening event at Yellowstone

Michigan Tech Nordic Skiing began its season this past weekend in West Yellowstone, Mont.  Only a small group of Huskies made the trip out west, but it was a head start before going into this weekend’s races at Northern Michigan (weather permitting).

The weekend started with the Classical Sprint races and for the men, Sophomore Petter Sjulstad finished 44th in 4:28 with Freshman Sondre Sandvik crossing at 55th (4:35). For the women, Freshman Henna Rikonen-Purtsi tied for 44th (5:31) with a Michigan Tech alum Kristina Owen.  Rounding out the group of Husky skiers was sophomore Melanie Hoffman finishing 89th.

The 15K Freestyle saw Senior Jessie Lang finish 49th for the Men and Sophomore Jackie Pribyl finished her 10K Freestyle in 77th.  In the Classical 10K race, Sandvick finished 83rd and Rikonen-Purtsi finished her 5K race in 72nd.
