Hockey Huskies salvage one point against Bulldogs


For the second straight night, the Michigan Tech Huskies took an early first period lead before the No. 15 Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs evened the game at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena en route to a 2-2 tie on Saturday night. With the tie, the Huskies set a new school record with seven ties.“We played to win,” said Huskies’ head coach Jamie Russell. “I challenged the team. Guys stepped up, and we rose to the occasion.”

Huskies fall to Sioux, 5-0


Houghton, MI – The host Michigan Tech Huskies needed a stronger first period after struggling on Friday night against the No. 17 North Dakota Fighting Sioux. Despite a strong start by the Huskies, the Sioux managed to come away with the win, 5-0, at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Three’s a crowd


The hockey Huskies battled back from a two-goal deficit and earned themselves a tie for the second straight night against the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves on Saturday. This time, however, they did manage to get a brief lead, forcing the hosts to battle back and earn the 3-3 tie at the Sullivan Arena.

Huskies come back to earn tie


The hockey Huskies (5-18-4 overall, 1-14-4 WCHA) needed a strong second half of their WCHA road matchup with the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves, and they got just that, using two power-play goals and a late tally to tie the host squad in the Sullivan Arena Friday night, 3-3.

Huskies complete successful holiday schedule


While the hockey Huskies aren’t exactly tearing up the WCHA, or even battling for a home playoff spot, the Huskies (5-17-2 overall, 1-13-2 WCHA) may have turned a major corner, going 3-4-1 over the past month. After a pair of drubbings from the No. 7 Denver Pioneers in which they were outscored 12-1 on home ice, the Huskies have recovered and lost both games to the No. 5 Pioneers by a combined three goals last weekend.

Huskies earn split with Seawolves


Houghton, MI – Looking to earn a split on the road, the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves needed 25:24 and a defensive breakdown to earn the lead and the win over the host Michigan Tech Huskies at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Despite two lengthy five-on-threes in the second period, the Huskies (2-4-0 overall, 1-3-0 WCHA) couldn’t find the equalizer, falling 2-1.

Huskies fall short in opener


Playing with senior forwards Ryan Angelow and Derek Kitti and junior defenseman Drew Dobson, the hockey Huskies played with a relatively young roster, and at times it showed during Saturday night’s, 3-1, loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues. Despite the score, the Huskies outplayed the Blues in nearly every facet of the game, outshooting the Blues 41-16, but couldn’t find the net with any consistency until the 16:42 mark of the third period.

The main question plaguing hockey Huskies fans this season is where the offense is going to come from. The Huskies lost 52.5 percent of its offense to graduation, and those numbers aren’t easy for any program to recover from. Head coach Jamie Russell has a hunch that the Huskies will do just that, with 16 forwards on roster.
