Overview
When looking back at the season that was for the hockey Huskies, it’s easy to place immediate blame for a season in which the team finished 5-30-1 overall and 4-24-0 in WCHA play on head coach Jamie Russell and his staff. Most of the community has already done so.

Just as they had Friday night, the top-ranked Denver Pioneers scored an early goal at home against the Michigan Tech Huskies, and used that advantage to skate away with a 4-2 victory and the series win Saturday night.

Needing a win to move into third in the WCHA Standings, at least for the time being, the No. 7 North Dakota overcame two hockey Huskies’ power play goals en route to a 3-2 win at the Ralph Engelstad Arena on the final night of the WCHA Regular Season.

Friday night, the hockey Huskies, who hadn’t won since Nov. 13, picked up three second-period tallies en route to a 4-1 win for their first win in 16 games. Unfortunately, they couldn’t hold that momentum through Saturday night’s game, falling 3-2.

After finally breaking through with a big win last night, the Michigan Tech Huskies looked to complete their first sweep of the season. Unfortunately for Huskies’ fans, the Minnesota State Mavericks scored on a couple of their power play chances and skated away with a 3-2 win Saturday night despite two goals from Huskies’ forward Brett Olson at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Looking to extend their winning streak to three games, the Minnesota Golden Gophers scored two key goals in the second period to skate away with a 3-2 win over the WCHA Last-Place Michigan Tech Huskies at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena Saturday night.

After dropping a pair of road matches to the No. 19 Colorado College Tigers, the hockey Huskies return home this weekend to open their WCHA home schedule with a pair of games against St. Cloud State. St. Cloud is fresh off a three-point weekend at home against the No. 18 Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.

Despite holding two-goal leads at two different points of tonight’s game and a three-point night from captain Malcolm Gwilliam, the hockey Huskies could not stay away from the penalty box, surrendering five power play goals and a pair of shorthanded tallies in a 8-5 loss to the No. 19 Colorado College Tigers.

Despite taking 34 shots on No. 19 Colorado College’s freshman netminder Joe Howe, the hockey Huskies surrendered three power play markers in five chances over the course of the game to drop a 4-1 decision to the Tigers Friday night at the Broadmor World Arena.

If the hockey Huskies’ season was a bad two-hour movie, you’d have turned it off after the first 10 minutes. Unfortunately for Huskies’ fans and players, it wasn’t. Instead, the Huskies won just six times all season and only twice after Christmas. To say this was a nightmare scenario barely does the season justice, but there are reasons to look forward to next season.
