The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team’s goal of making the GLIAC tournament was shattered in two tough losses last week, but to the Huskies’ credit, they fought hard in front of the home crowd on Thursday night, downing the visiting Lake Superior State Lakers by a 61-58 score, the Huskies’ fifth straight home win.

For just the second time this year, both Husky teams lost on the same day. The Hillsdale Chargers handed the women’s team a 68-65 loss, while the Charger men all be eliminated the Husky men from GLIAC tournament contention with a 79-55 win.

After a deflating loss against Findlay, the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team still had a small chance at the GLIAC Tournament, but they had to basically win out and get a little help from a few teams ahead of them. Today’s match-up against tournament-bound Hillsdale would tell a lot about the Huskies’ resiliency, but unfortunately, the Chargers made quick work of the Huskies, scoring 19 seconds in and never trailing on their way to a 79-55 win.

It may or may not be too little, too late for the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team in terms of making the GLIAC tournament, but this young Huskies’ team will not go down without a fight, as evidenced by today’s 53-46 upset of the GLIAC North-leading Grand Valley State Lakers.

Michigan Tech scored 90 points against Tiffin on the road not even one month ago, and with a healthy lineup, the team is confident heading into Thursday’s match-up against the 1-18 Dragons. Ashland comes to town on Saturday looking for the season sweep after a 73-62 victory against Tech on Jan. 9.

The basketball scoreboard was not even hung from the ceiling yet as the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team took to their home court for the first time in an exhibition against the cross-river Finlandia Lions. Somebody forgot to tell the men in blue that it was an exhibition, as the D3 Lions’ ferocious full-court press kept the game close against the D2 hosts. The Huskies ultimately came away with the 81-71 victory, but not before Finlandia cut the margin to four points twice in the final five minutes.

A loss in the semi-final round at the GLIAC end-of-the-year tournament marked the end of the season for the Michigan Tech men’s basketball squad. The team went 14-15 overall this year and 10-12 in conference play. The team will be saying goodbye to four key players in the senior class: Brandon Ball, Fedrick Bowe, Sean Geary and Robby Springborn. The four seniors made up a majority of the starting line-up this season for Michigan Tech.

This past weekend, the Tech Men’s Basketball team went 1-1 against Grand Valley State University and Ferris State University. The Huskies are now 9-9 in the GLIAC and 12-11 overall putting them in fourth place in the North Division GLIAC rankings.

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team picked up their third win in a row against Ferris State University on Thursday Feb. 12, 66-58. With the road victory, the Huskies improved their conference record to 9-8 and their overall record to 12-10. The Huskies played outstanding defense in the second half, limiting the Bulldogs to 15 points fewer than they scored in the second period of play. Tech’s offense was spread out between the players, with four Huskies scoring in the double digits for the game. Robby Springborn once again led the Huskies offensively with 15 points. Fredrick Bowe had 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Mike Hojnacki scored 14 points, and Georgio Holt added 10 points.

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team traveled down to Ohio this past Winter Carnival weekend to take on GLIAC opponents Tiffin University and Ashland University. The squad went 2-0 on the weekend, putting their record at 11-10 overall and 8-8 in the GLIAC. Tech is holding on to fourth place in the GLIAC North Division.
