The Michigan Tech Huskies battle it out tonight at 7:07pm. They are looking to take away Minnesota’s home ice advantage for the WCHA playoffs.
While the hockey Huskies aren’t exactly tearing up the WCHA, or even battling for a home playoff spot, the Huskies (5-17-2 overall, 1-13-2 WCHA) may have turned a major corner, going 3-4-1 over the past month. After a pair of drubbings from the No. 7 Denver Pioneers in which they were outscored 12-1 on home ice, the Huskies have recovered and lost both games to the No. 5 Pioneers by a combined three goals last weekend.
This season’s hockey Huskies are on the verge of emerging from the black hole that is the celler of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and rejoining the league’s elite. Leading the way for the Huskies are nine seniors, the largest class of head coach Jamie Russell’s six years here.
